Special nut for Evinrude lower unit

I'm replacing my 68 Evinrude 40 HP water pump and the manual says not to reuse the nuts attaching the lower unit sections.

Since these nuts are about $10 each....can one just use lock tight or a lock washer?

Yep, Locktite will do the job. Um....but why are you removing the nuts to do a water pump job?

Excellent question. I discovered damaged wiring to the gear case and also bad roller bearings. Somehow water got into the bearings on the drive shaft. Somehow the wiring was frayed and broken
