1999 johnson 175hp ,... seized up

i have a johnson-evinrude-1999..175hp model=BJ175PXEES.. was running fine out on water ..i went over a sand bar and trimmed up motor but it started slowing down.. and rpms lowered and all of a sudden i heard it lock up.. prop still spins when in neutral . but when i try to start its doesnt turn .i believe it has seized up ,,how can i unseize... could it have sand inside .. it did not overheat as no buzzer rang.. PLZ HELP>>>

Can you move the flywheel by hand?
Disconnect the sparkplug leads if you give it a try, can't be too careful.

Well, the driveshaft bearing in the gearcase could have seized, or the engine could have seized. Drop the gearcase and see which it is. Pull the clevis pin under the carbs on the left side looking at the motor and slide the linkage to release the shift rod. Then unbolt the gearcase and remove it.
