I am thinking about buying this project boat with a 1962 70hp. I just need to know if there is anything goofy with these motors I need to know. How hard are they to work on and how available are parts? Thank you for any info. Josh

The 1962 75hp came in both mechanical and electric shift. Which does it have?

Electric shift works great, unless it doesn't, and parts can be hard to find (the forward/neutral/reverse buttons alone can be over $100).

I can see two control cables, so it must be mechanical shift. A model number would help ID it for sure.
OK, that motor was state of the art when new, and was very good and dependable. It also somewhat heavy for the horsepower and kind of thirsty. They are easy to repair and most parts are available. Some are costly, but what isn't these days? Compared to the cost of a new one, it can give you some economical boating.

Before you buy it do a compression test on it and check the lower unit oil.

Boat looks nearly as old as the motor or at least 70s. I would be concerned about the transom and stringers being mush. If anything, low ball the price for the motor alone.
