Exhaust coming from Cowling? 1992 8hp Evinrude

Fresh tune-up, including spark plugs, carb rebuild, new fuel lines and fresh fuel. Start, runs, everything like brand new, but getting choked up from all of the exhaust coming from under the cover seeping out of the choke lever and cover seal. All other larger outboards it exhaust through the bottom. Any thoughts? Bad gasket?

I don't have much experience with that engine, but it sounds like you might have a blown power head gasket.

With the engine running, use a spray can of fogging oil and spray it into the carb and it might show you where the leak is.
