76 35hp Johnson will not idle

New to forum first few times out it idled great but wouldn't open up it was like it was only running on one cylinder which it was coil had cracks in it replace both coils now it runs great at fast speed but it will not idle. will not start at idle but will start wide open. have cleaned the carburetor reset the points but it still will not start at or run in idle??????????

hi hows vacuum on carb throat at start rpm? any pushback indicating broken reeds?
Does using the choke help?
Have you seen what the timing is at attempted start up?

Check the compression. 1976 35hp motors had a BIG problem with overheating and resulting loss of compression and lousy (or no) running. Is there any sign of overheating, such as discolored paint on the powerhead?

sorry been out of country for awhile and haven't been able to get back to this. I found out the problem they sold me the wrong coils put the right ones in and it runs great.
