Johnson 48 SPL Carburetor Issue?

I am not sure if I have a problem here.

Engine running on muffs.

If I open up the throttles at the OMC controls it revs up fine.

On the other hand, If I hit throttle linkage at the dual carb system the engine bogs down, coughs and dies. I could swear it didn't do this before. I believe you bypass the timing mechanism if you open the throttle at the carbs....but with no load I don't see why it shouldn't rev up.

Any thoughts??

Not sure what linkage you're describing?
Is the timing advancing as you "hit the throttle linkage"?
If not that's your problem.
