Hey guys got a question about my 1978 35 hp Johnson. I installed a teleflex tachometer that has all the settings for different poles on back. My motor by the book should be on 5 pulse because its a 10 pole system(intructions). My problem is the tach works great up to around 3000-3400 rpm and will not climb past that. I know this engine is turning between 5-6k WOT and my flat is going 28 mph. My question is are there ignition interference somewhere or what? All ignition parts are brand new as is the charging system. All connections are secure and tight and installed by the book. HELP!!! I've tried all the other pulse settings and they are definitely not right. My controls do not have the 3 prong plug for a tach. FYI

Sounds like either a bad tach or a charging system prob. 5 P is the correct position.

Thanks, I'll check the charging system before contacting the tach co. Rectifier was replaced when I rebuilt the entire engine with all new electronics and ign. parts.
