1978 Evinrude 150hp V6 remote control ball bearing replacement issue

I am trying to find out how to reinstall the ball bearing/spring assembly for the shift lever in the remote control assembly.

I have a 1977 Invader Aquarius bowrider with the V6 150. Was removing from boat to remove cap and bearing fell out. Cannot figure out how to get it back in place. I have the schematic, but that only show me where it goes.

Any suggestions?

Have the cam indentation lined up with the slot that the spring/ball goes in.

Insert the ball with the spring so that the ball is in that indentation.

Curl the spring so that the other end is in the dead end of that slot, then push the curl down and hold it while you put the retaining cover on it.
