40 hp Johnson

I have a 40 hp Johnson tiller, model number 40esl 69r. I just got it a few days ago and fired right up. I went to the lake and backed away from the dock put it in to forward and everything was working fine. But when I tried going any faster then a idle speed the engine would idle up but I would not go anywhere, if I went back down to a idle the boat would start moving forward again. Anybody have any ideals?

WElcome to iboats. Sounds like you have a spun hub on your prop. That means that the rubber on the inside of your prop has broken loose and the prop has nothing to hold it and move with the driveshaft a t higher speeds. You can take it to a dealer or prop shop and they can rehub it.
