re-time necessary after replacing power pack?

I've no spark on one side of my V6 150 carb'd, and I've gone through the tests and determined it is the power pack. So ... I take the old one off, put the new one on ... do I have to redo the timing (which was fine prior to malfunction)? Of course I threw my timing light away, so would have to take to someone to check timing. Should I?

CDI is $175 (Amazon) versus $197 Johnson OEM on Marineparts (price includes shipping).

I've always checked the timing after replacing any ignition component, especially a power pack. JMHO.

What's it doing? Is the side in question firing? I don't have a clue about your big ole motor but found on my little one, the ground for the pack has to be good and clean...
