Hello i have a 1959 Johnson 35 HP Model RDS 21-B. I am on the task of replacing the seals in the gearcase. Can someone tell me how to remove them properly without damaging the cast aluminum. Step By Step instructions would be nice. I have already purchased new impeller seals and the seal kit for the motor. It comes with two brass seals and drain/ fill hole seals the seals for the shift rod and the spaghetti seal for the housing. Thanks for the help if anyone can.

You are going to have to drop the lower unit and seperate the skeg to replace the seals. A factory manual is worth it's weight in gold for proper repairs on your engine.

I already have dropped it before and replaced the water impeller. Do you have any advice for changing the seals? A Procedure would be helpful

You have to split the skeg off of the lower unit itself and remove the propshaft. remove the seal housing from the propshaft and then you can replace the seals.

HI 1961. Here are some great links that can walk you through the job. They're for a slightly different model, but all of the basic steps are the same. You van get the reseal kit itself right here at iboats for about $25.
