1998 Johnson 115 ficht will not crank intermittently

I have had a problem with intermittent no-crank since I bought the boat used in March 2013. Battery is new and fully charged and the engine will not crank at all, then mysteriously cranks fine and starts right up. I tried giving the starter motor a few knocks thinking maybe it has a dead spot but this did not get it to crank. Try again a while later and it cranks fine. Tried working in and out of neutral too, but still hit or miss getting it to crank.

Thanks for any ideas you can offer on troubleshooting!

Are ALL the battery cable connections good, clean and tight on both the battery and the mtr ??

Thanks boobie, yes all connections are tight and clean. Verified I am getting 12V at the battery.

Start checking all the wiring connections on the mtr especially around the starter solenoid. and what goes to it.
