Evinrude 40 Year??

Hi all,

I just purchased a nice '13 foot whaler last weekend off of Craigslist and, of course, it ran great all weekend. My wife went to start it Monday morning and no start. I can get it to backfire now and then but, nothing more.

Can anyone tell me what year it is? It seems that the serial and model # plate is no longer on the motor and, after being duped, need to get this fixed before my wife kills me.

Thank you in advance,

John

Re: Evinrude 40 Year??

.....look for a "freeze plug" (about the size of a dime and the same color) on the power head...commonly on the right side...may be hidden by the wiring harness.
The serial and model number will be stamped there if it is the original power head.

Just a word of caution: Removed/obliterated numbering is a red flag for a stolen engine.

The number on the freeze plug is g3316277. It does not appear to be similar to a normal Evinrude/Johnson serial or model number.

Yes, I do understand the potential history of this motor.
