model # is on a label on the left transom bracket what is it?

if this is an electric starter you remove the bracket and starter as a unit...you'll see the screws that have to come out as well as a grounding strap and the positive wire from the solenoid to the base of the starter

Oh Yea!, Some times there is a sequential sequence to remove and install things on those engines. I had to tighten the left carb nut up on my '76 Johnson 40HP and to do that I had to remove the starter solenoid, then the starter and starter bracket as well just to be able to get a wrench on that nut... PIT...well you know what! But I will remember that for future issues as well...
