Need help on my 1972 evinrude water pump..

I have just bought a 1972 evinrude 6hp. I am wanting to change the water pump.. Could someone help me in finding the best kit to buy for it? I am new to the boat world.. And also I have read different post about the exhaust hole. Some people call it a tell-tale hole and some call it exhaust hole.. Which one is it really? And also should water come out of the hole in a steady stream to make sure it is cooling the motor? Thanks

Pic of the motor would be nice to give you good information. The water coming out of the cooling water outlet would be more like spitting.

Here is a video of what I presume you motor might look like. At 3:05 you will see the cooling water outlet spitting.

That is the exact same motor... So since I understand the water exhaust.. Do you think you could give me an idea on good aftermarket water pump kit?

I would need to see the water pump housing to determine the correct water pump kit for your application. Is the housing plastic or something else. Post a pic if you could.

I'm not able to take a pic right now but in that link that you sent me there is a picture of the water pump that is exactly like mine..

So it is a pot metal housing and not a plastic housing with stainless steel insert?

Correct. It is a pot metal housing.

Part number 382797 Water pump kit, you should be able to get this from any Johnson/Evinrude dealer or any marine parts on-line store.

Thank you for the help!! Before I order it, it says its for a 1975 I'm guessing that will fit my 1972 as well?
