1978 Johnson 55HP- Charges Battery?

Hi all,
VERY new to boating- getting started on my first 14' runabout and need a motor. I'm adding some lights and a radio but really want a motor that will charge my battery - I've found one for sale, it's a 1978 Johnson 55 HP, but the current owner isn't sure if it charges... it's about 5 hours from me and I really would like a good idea of the odds that it DOES charge. Any help? -Chris

It does have a charging system but it's not a high output unit. That is if it functions correctly, that you need to check out.

I think it's only got a 4 amp charging system on it which isn't much.
