Johnson 50 stalls while cruising at 3/4 or wot but won't shut off then seems to rev l

Hello all, ok so 1999 50 hp starts and accelerates fine then when cruising at 3/4 or more throttle motor stalls like you backed the throttle down to a fast idle. Then when I do back the throttle down and the increase it past a fast idle it acts like it hits a rev limiter. Any one seen this before? Any help would be nice cuz I got a trip to go scollop'in next week and all the boat shops are backed up w work being that its summer. Thanks in advance.
