1972 65HP Johnson low RPM's in gear

Hi all, my 1972 65hp johnson outboard is having issues in gear. While under load the motor wont go above 2500 - 3000 rpms. In neutral i can easily get the rpms higher. It has done this before, and sometimes didnt do it at all. before, i was able to put take it out of gear, rev the motor a little, and put it back in gear and then off it would go. today, i tried that and nothin, it was a slow ride out and a slow ride back.

things that ive checked is the carbs, ive cleaned them and checked the floats. I checked to make sure the throttle cable was good, the carbs are opened all the way at WOT.

I read a post on here and everyone said it was the Power Pack(coil).
I was wondering if it could be an issue with the fuel pump.

Any ideas? I appreciate it

Hello,

You could test the fuel pump operation by pumping the primer bulb when the engine is failing and see if the motor RPM picks up.

Sounds like it's not running on all three cyl's . Do a cyl drop test on it.
