I have a 97 Johnson 35 HP engine. The trim/tilt worked fine after filling the fluid. We left the motor up for a couple hours and now it will not go down. Any ideas on what this could be? Thanks.

Does the trim motor run; do you hear the relays clicking? If you hear clicking try tapping the trim motor with a small hammer and see what happens. Good luck

be careful tapping the motor. you can crack the magnets and cause the motor to break within a few months. when you tap it, if you tap it, then tap lightly on the top (not the sides).

better yet. hot wire the motor directly to a battery and see if trim works. If it does then you have a relay, switch, or wiring problem.

Check your electrical connections if you hit the up button does the trim motor try to go up? If it does try swapping the relays. I assume you tried both the tilt buttons at the controls and the one mounted on the engine to make sure it isn't a bad switch?

Also have you removed your oil injection unit? If you haven't git rid of it.

Thanks everyone. Miraculously it worked fine the next day. We will see how the week goes.
