I need to rebuild the carb on 1964 Johnson MQ.
I have the owners manual but is does not have any info to remove the carb.
Do I have to remove the fly wheel to remove the carb?
Any info would be appreciated.

No need to remove the flywheel. Look closely at the screws retaining the carburetor... it'll become very clear to you how it comes off.

From memory, without getting the book out, I believe you need to put it in forward gear so you can turn the throttle wide open. Then you can get at the carb bolts. Be sure to take a good look at the funky throttle linkage and remember how it goes.

For the idle mixture needle, remove the coil spring that holds it in curved position, pull off the knob, remove the e-ring from the inside of the panel, then the needle will slide outward enough to remove the c-clip from the outside of the panel. Now the knob shaft will slide out of the panel.

Like I said this is from memory. It's been a long time since I've worked on one, but I sure did a bunch of them back in the day. I still could almost do one in my sleep. Lessee, it is now 1:47 AM here, z.z.z.z.z.z.z.

Yep, that did!

Carb is off....put in it gear then full throttle made the screw accessible.

Thanks for the help.
