Read somewhere that it's possible to convert these old OMC's from solenoid choke to primer system. There was no definitive way to do it that was offered. How would someone go about doing this? Specifically, where would you route the fuel lines off of the primer, and how would it be wired? This should improve starting, correct?

Wrong. I don't know why anybody would want to convert them anyway. Give me the old electric choke any day.

I'm with FR on this. You'd probably get into changing to newer carbs, the fuel manifold, along with the primer solenoid. Why spend all that time and effort needlessly? My 1979 85 hp starts just fine when cold with the old style choke system.

Re: Primer System conversion for 1973 Evinrude 135

I have a 1977 Evinrude 115hp 115799s and been going crazy trying to put an electric choke on my motor. There is no where to mount a electric choker on my motor without changing the silencer so a choke can be mounted. My motor has side mounted intake flairs that prevents me from mounting a choke where other models have it mounted. Someone mentioned putting a primer system because it can be mounted anywhere under the hood but I have no idea what primer sytem to buy. Can anyone help with this

?
Good to know, guys. Thanks for the info.

Someone's been messing with your motor. Not sure what that carb cover is off of with that extra breather on top. Would be easier to find the proper intake cover assembly with the choke.
