69 Johnson 40HP - Which coil is top/bottom

i found a diagram on here at one point, but didn't bookmark it. any easy answers out there?

The one closest to the carb is the top cylinder. One closest to cylinder head is the bottom.

After viewing the parts diagram for your engine, I can't seriously tell. You are going to have to see which cylinder is on the compression stroke while the points are starting to open. And then that will be for whichever cylinder it happens to be...
