Evinrude 40 vro fuel primer switch

Hello everybody.
I have recently aquired a evinrude 40 vro with a damaged gearbox which I have now replaced and am going to try to start it.
On the fuel primer is a red switch for manual operation ,I have searched the web high and low to find out which position does what but cant find the instructions for use.
Any help would be appreciated.

Not sideways during normal operation.Sould face to bottom of switch.

An easier way to remember is to turn the red valve as far as it will go clockwise.

Ok thanks for that,so clockwise is normal running(only fuels when key is pressed) anti clockwise on all the time,but is there a center position,

only open or closed, it's just a valve

Another easy way to remember is to have the red lever parallel with the body of the solenoid for normal running.
