help with year 15hp evinrude

I took the carb apart as it wouldn't start and found a mysterious spring in the float bowl. Now i need to find some diagrams

1977 15 hp. Go to shop.evinrude.com and look up your mtr. Good parts diagrams.

1977. No spring in the bowl. Are you sure it's not the float needle retainer, small wire thing?

That was it bonzoscott. it was not atached when i took it apart it was just siting in the bowl. I tried to figure how it would go back on that needle but every way i tried it would bind up the needle. I 86 it and put it back together (didn't look like there was any way that needle was going to fall out). The motor is running great now. Thanks all for your help. Hopefully not having that retainer won't cause me trouble later.
