Evinrude 1987 88 special?

Ok guys hope someone can help me out here. The drive shaft bearing has seized! While looking for a new one I have found that the shaft is as expensive as buying complete used lower unit my ? Is the compatabilty of the lower units. My shaft is listed on several different motors but the gear case is different, will these different gear cases still match up to motor?
