I removed the flush plug from the lower unit today (not the vent plug), and noticed the small plastic (appears to be plastic) piece that was on the end of the plug is broken off.....I can see the piece and it moves slightly if i touch it with small screw driver....however I haven't been able to get it out.....any suggestions other than dropping the lower unit? I hate to leave it as I'm not sure what damage it could do. Any advice is appreciated.

Use a bit of fishing wire with a loop in it.
By the way did you post in the merc or johnson/evinude section as another post has done the same?

WOW!! You all are the best here on the forum...made a small hook on the end of a piece of wire leader material and fished the plastic piece out in about 30 seconds.........Now if i could only catch fish that quick....Thanks for the great tip.
