1988 88 hp 2 part question Head bolt torque ? and water deflector?

Hi Folks does any one have the head bolt torque specs and tightening sequence for a Johnson 1988 88 I pulled the heads just to check the water jackets and also to check the water deflectors, Both are in good shape. What is the purpose of these little pieces of rubber AKA deflectors ? and would it really affect any cooling if they fell apart? ( besides clogging the water jacket ) Thanks for all your help. Also would you guys use never seize or lock tight on the head bolts? :grumpy:

Never Seize or Lock-Tite? NO.... Simply put some anti corrosive grease on those bolt threads.

Torque = 18 to 20 foot pounds in the following sequence.

9....10
5.....6
1.....2
4.....3
8.....7
