I have aquired an old outboard that I don't know much about. This is the information I have collected so far:

Johnson Colt looks like a 1987 and has 1.2 HP
Model jcocua
serial # B 7361933
Made in Belgium

The first obstacle I have is the starter is broken. I found a place in Denver (Crowley) that carries the plastic wheel that the coil spring attaches to so that the rope recoils and am ordering it today. My next challenge will to wrap the spring around that wheel. Any ideas on how to coil the spring and keep this thing together while its assembled?

Any help is appreciated.

On a similar recoil (2 HP) I just got everything more or less in place with the spring connected to the recoil wheel and then wound the wheel clockwise until the entire spring was drawn into the proper position. I held the rope in place with a big elastic to keep it out of the way. Once the spring was in I connected the pull handle and it worked like a dream. Best of luck. I hope I made sense. Rick.
