Hello, I have a '62 FDL-16 18 hp motor. I recently rebuilt the carb, and replaced all of the fuel lines. I was following the directions in this previous post, http://forums.iboats.com/engine-fre...sorted-carb-variations-joe-reeves-167352.html, and when adjusting the lower high speed needle valve, the motor never wanted to "die out" or "spit back," it raced to high rpms really quickly, which I then chose to shut down. I need help in adjusting these, as the sleeves that both needle valves sit in starting to loosen up.

Tighten the packing nuts to tighten the needles. You can't adjust the needles properly until you are on the lake. You can rough set them in a test tank:
Low speed: open 1.5 turns
High Speed: open 3/4 turn.
When on the lake, go to WOT and adjust the high speed to run at max rpm's. Then idle down to a troll and optimize the low speed.

Thanks guys! Took me a little while, but I did get the motor running, and I've had it out on the water quite a bit without any issues.
