Anyone willing to share some info on how to remove the lower unit on a 1954 johnson 25hp. would b greatly apreciated. i got all new seals and will b getting a new water pump. and i remember last season trying to get it of and it seemed like the shift linkage was holding me back so i said the heck with it and put it back for the season. well theres no runing from it now. thanks in advance to anyone who might help. thanks.

Remove the bolts holding the gearcase. It will then lower 1/2" or so. Now you can see the shift rod coupler. Remove the lower bolt in the coupler, and the gearcase will be able to be pulled out.

PM me with your email address.

I don't think there was a stock prop offered. Dealers were supposed to install a prop that would fit the application...

oic. because i have it on an old 16 ft aluminum row boat and it takes off like all get out but there isnt much for top end. itl pull a skier outa the water instantly with two people in the boat. but ide like to sacrafice some low end for some top end. only problem is my prop has no markings. and i dont wanna spend $100 dollars on a prop that might not make a differance.

That is exactly why the OMCS did so well in the 50s. They had the low end torque family water sports needed that the competition just did not have.

Take the prop off and look inside the cone. It will be marked.

No take it right off the motor and look in from the backside.

well i know its a late update but all is well and the new impellor and seals are in and working properly. and as far as the prop goes its a 10 3/8x13x3 and im having genuin trouble trying to find something in the 14 ish pitch range. the prop that was on it when i got it doesnt have any markings on it. but the blades are wider than the 10 3/8x13x3, giving it more surface area but i dont otice any differance between the to so i assume the one with no makings has less pitch to it. but if any1 has any leads on a prop in the 14 pitch ball park PLEASE let me know, perferable good used condition. Thanks very much for your time and help.

Do you know what your WOT RPM is? Increasing the pitch by 1 will DECREASE your WOT RPM by about 200RPM.

no i dont but it revs up at WOT more than i like runing it. i dot think it really over reving but its probably close. its a very light boat.
