I just purchased a Evinrude Junior and it ran pretty good when I bought it and brought it home but then I decided to clean the carb and replace the spark plug. After doing all that now the motor will only start when I have the throttle almost all the way up. I am thinking it is a float adjustment problem but not for sure due to lack of knowledge with outboard motors. Any help is much appreciated.

Re: 1997 Evinrude Junior Carb Problems

Howdy, Will.

Welcome to iboats. :)

It is not uncommon for incomplete cleaning of carbs on very small outboards to actually cause clogging of the orifices in the throat. I usually use an "L" shaped wire to clear them, but it is better to remove the Welch plug on the top of the throat to get access. There is a replacement Welch plug in the overhaul kit.

Your description of the symptoms suggest that the low speed orifice is clogged

Good luck, and let us know outcomes :)
