I have a 1976 Evinrude 135 hp ob . I noticed that I had a water leak around the exhaust manifold. When I went to replace the gaskets I noticed that the back of my manifold had been eaten away by saltwater getting in between the gaskets. I also noticed that one of the filler blocks had melted. I found a pair of filler blocks but they are very expensive. My question is do I really need them or not? Can someone out there answer this question for me?

All I can tell you about the filler blocks is on the old V-4 cross flow mtrs you needed them as without them you could burn a piston. On the V-6 models you could get along without them. If you do get the blocks be prepared to take the block to a machine shop and have the new filler blocks milled to fit your block.

The factory has converted this part kit to "special order" status. Currently they have no stock. Probably why they are expensive.
