Im working on a 1930-32 johnson a-50 4hp outboard. The condition overall is pretty good! Some questions I have about it are if it is water-cooled, if so, where would the water pump be located? Are the low and high speed adjustment needles set the same as the 50's and up motors or is it different than 1 and 1.5 turns? Anything helps. Thanks!

I believe it is force-fed through the grate on the leading edge of the exhaust outlet, just below the AV plate. Propeller pushes water into the system to cool.

It's been awhile since I've started my A-65 (very similar) but it should start at 2 turns out on both and you can adjust from there for smoothest running positions.

Ok. I know where thats located and it seems to be free. Where does the water exit the motor?

Most of it goes out the exhaust, which helps keep the motor leg cool...
