Hi, been looking for ages to find the year & spark plug type/gap but have only got this far;

Johnson Seahorse 4HP
Model: J4BRHCTA (thinks it`s 1983)
Ser: B011096
Plugs: Champion L86C, RL86C, QL86C or NGK B6HS
Gap: 0.030" (0.7-0.8mm)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also handy thread for future reference.

Regards, steve.

Thanks. Now it turns over well & looks pretty clean, was checking the plugs against the block & I`m only getting the one of the two plugs visually sparking? They look old so will get new ones , but guessing the flywheel has to come off to check what needs replacing underneath?

I'd say go with the L86C plugs. Your spark has to jump a 1/4" open air gap on a spark tester. Pull the flywheel and see what the points and ect look like. Plug gap, .030 ".

Actually, it has points, condensors & coils. I got the flywheel off, cleaned & gapped the points & after putting everything back it started up after a few pulls!
