johnson bypass gasket

This is my first diy gasket. Im making it for my 1980 15 hp johnson bypass port. Im planning to make it out of a cereal box and was wondering will it work? Will I need gasket sealant or does it goes on dry? What things should I look for?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

i think you could buy a gasket, when i can't find one i cut them out of sheet gasket material from the automotive store

Maybe I"ll just do that. But do you think a cereal box will work n does the gasket goes on dry or with sealant on the bypass port ?

Yea that's the one. I know it's only a couple bucks but I'm tired of putting money into this motor. So far the money i put in for the motor is as much as the motors worth.
