I'm not sure what year and model my motor is and the tag has allready been removed. i think its a 1963 20hp fd-20 if anyone happens to know it would help me out alot. I ordered a water pump impeller for this motor and it was the wrong size part. I'm needing a carb rebuild kit, needle and also the water pump impeller and gasket if anyone could tell me what part number they r i would really appreciate it.

Re: Johnson 20 hp help!!

I don't think it is 100% original, but I call it as a late 1960's or early 1970's. Likely a 1968 or 69 (See edit). Really doesn't matter all that much considering the parts you are looking for. They were unchanged for a number of years in that era. There is something wrong with that impeller you got. Either you ordered the wrong number or they sent you the wrong part. The same impeller was used for over 20 years in the 18-20-25hp series.

It has been repainted??? Or your camera didn't record the true color???

EDIT: Upon more careful consideration, I say it is a 1970 with a fuel pump that has been replaced from an older model. Based on the recoil starter lockout and the drain recirculating system. Earlier comments still apply, there were very few changes during those years.

EDIT EDIT: It has the "new" carburetor that came out in 1969-up. Keep that in mind when ordering carburetor parts.

Re: Johnson 20 hp help!!

Hi six. The 20hp wasn'y made until 1966 with the FD-20 model. Prior to that the FD/E models were 18hp. However, the dark green paint on you motors indicates that it is probably a '68-'72ish model. Double check the small riveted tag on the transom clamp for the model number. Thankfully, many of the parts are interchangeable between the varuious years. Here are the links to the carb kit, lower unit seal kit, and impeller. You may as well get a tune-up kit as well which contains a new set of points and condensers. You should be able to get everything you need right here at iboats for about $100.

I'm going to assume your motor is a '68 for reference purposes.

Tune up kit:

Impeller:

Carb kit:

Lower unit seal ki: (you will also need a tube of 3M 847 gasket sealant)
