getting ready to buy a 2000 model 150 johnson fast strike anything i should know about this engine. are the good engines or do i need to stay away from it
they are great engines, but those are the down years right before they were bought out. But at this point any issues would manifested themselves by now.
no knocking noises , good compression, and a clean, smooth lower unit is the basis for a solid outboard.... all the other little kremlins are easily fixed usually....
or not nearly as expensive to fix.....
the carbs leak often...because they are plastic and the brass ball sealing a construction passage becomes lose.
As long as it's got carbs it should be okay. The only thing I can remember about that model year was they had some gear case probs but that should have been cured by now.
