I will be re-ringing and re gaskketing my cd17 5.5hp johnson seahorse soon. Is there any thing i should be aware of before i tear into it? Also is there a seal on the top under the flywheel? I thought there was but have not located a part on the diagrams. Also where is a decent source for rings? Also does any one know the torque values?

There is no top bearing seal. Only a slinger. Oil is sucked back down to the intake manifold.

Re: 1960 5.5 hp Johnson Seahorse

Excellent, thanks. I'm not quite sure whether it needs new rings yet but i will deffinatly be getting new gaskets. I would like to keep this motor alive as long as i can. I dont have a johnson manual but I am pretty mechanically inclined. Do these motors have the needle bearings in the rod caps and what type of bushings do the crank ride on. Are there any replacement parts for those two things? thanks again for youre knowledge.

1960 is all cast-in-place bushings, not replaceable except as the complete components.
