Change water pump impellar 2000 90 hp Johnson

Bought this boat about 2 years ago so don't know if this has ever been changed but my water flow seems slow . I'v changed these impellars in older Evinrudes both electric and regular shift . Before I start would someone explain how to take the bottom part off of motor ? I know to take the bolts out that screw upwards but my concern is what about the shifting rod how is this disconnected ? A N D is there anything else I should be concerned about ? Thanks in advance for any help.

Make sure your telltale isn't a little clogged.

An OEM Factory Service Manual would be recommended. For now and future probs.

Boobie is giving good advice. There are some orings that need to be installed and some gaskets that need to be glued down. The plastic key needs to be installed the correct was as well. A service manual makes it doable.
