Hello, I have a 1960 40 hp Johnson. The rod that locks the motor in the down position is completely rusted. Before I just started messing with it I thought I would get some advice. Is this easily fixed? I really don't see a way to get the old one out and a new one in. any input greatly appreciated. This boat is almost ready for testing and I thought I should try to fix this problem first. I need to revise this. There is a rod with a spring above where the tilt lock is. I found a rod that will work for the tilt lock, but see no way of not losing it if I try to tilt the motor up if I am on the water.
