Unusual question. I wouldn't be inclined to look there first. Significantly advanced timing can do that, tho. Check to see that the timer base has returned to the idle position. A couple of things can cause highly advanced timing: 1. the link arm has become disconnected between the spark advance lever and the timer base itself. 2. The lubricating grease under the timer base has dried out and it is sticking in an advanced position.
