Shifting lever hooked to shift linkage came loose on 1978 Johnson 115

While trying to repair my shifting linkage and reverse the lever it is hooked to came loose. It goes back and forth but does not make contact now with lower case and shifting any gears. What is the lever hooked to to make contact with lower case? I see nothing below the lever bar to connect to? The Seloc manual did not help or show the lever assembily. Any help is appreciated as outboard mechanics are scarce around here. Thanks.

Hard to understand just what part you are describing. Maybe you could check out the factory exploded parts diagram for your engine and provide us with a description or item number that may be the problem. Look here: epc.brp.com
