I'm replacing the head gasket on my 71 Johnson 2 horse. I notice that the original gasket looks like it has no sealant of any kind. With the new one, should I shellac-it, Hi-Tac-it, or leave it bare like the original. thanks!

If the new gasket has a shiney or sheen look to it then a sealant is already applied.

If it doesn't say "use no sealer", then you should use OMC gasket sealing compond or Permatex # 3.

Too late! I already installed it without sealant. The gasket had a sticky covering I found out when I pulledoff the cellophane wrap it came in. I've been running her and she's not overheating as before. Guess it was the head gasket. Thanks for the advice!

Boobie and Ultra: Thanks for the input; it's always appreciated. Right now she's running great but with my luck and ability to screw something up I'll be back for more help. Always appreciated!
