i bought what i was told was a 1954 15 hp evinrude outboard but i am having trouble finding the number in any manuals or searches for parts i do and was wondering if anyone could help the serial number is 15012-15608 the reasons i discovered this was because the recoil spring broke and i need one that is compatible with it

Model number 15012, serial number up to 19,000 is a 1953

Model 15012, serial 19001 and up, is a 1954

Model number 15013, same serial numbers, is a long shaft version, same years.

Model numbers 15014/15015 are 1955.

most large dealers should have the spring in stock # 395460, about $15

Model & serial number chart is from "The Old Outboard Book" by Peter Hunn.

Original spring number was 41-197, changed to 307573, changed to 395460. If your local dealer doesn't have it, I suggest you get one from right here at iboats. After all, they do give us this free forum. iboats part number is 18-6501.
