1989 evinrude 60hp vro head cylinder torque and bolt adjustment order

Hi all,

I have to change the head cylinder gasket in my evinrude 60hp 3 cylinders.

Any special recommendation?
what is the torque that I have to apply to the bolts?
do I have to adjust the bolt twice with different torque?
any specific order when I adjust the bolt?
I have to use some silicon too beside the new gasket???

20. 3 newton meters for the head start with the left out side center going to the right h\d side & around like a spiral in a clock wise direction i do not use silicone , talk them a little at a time until u reach the 20.3 talk

18 to 20 foot pounds. Start with the center left head bolt, then continue on in an ever widening right hand circular pattern as follows.

Do no apply anything to the gasket.

Tighten a little at a time untill you hit the 20 foot pound point.

1.....2
4.....3
8.....7 (continue on to all remaining bolts)

I re-torqued mine after about 10 hours of running time. I believe that's what the manual says.

I applied general motors engine sealant to my head gasket on my 89 70hp is this bad?

Well, don't know. Guess you'll find out. They're easy enough to change. Like Joe said, apply nothing to the head gasket.

I guess we will...is the issue due to varying torques with a sealant involved, or the small amount of sealant causing a change in compression due to larger thickness?

Hi guys, I have a question. Can this pattern also be used on a 14 bolt crankcase to block sequence? I have another post here on my 1989 evinrude 40hp, was looking for crankcase sequence, or do I even need one for crankcase? Seloc book has nothing about sequence.
