1973 johnson 65 hp controls....

So I found out that the 73 johnson 65 i bought is a mechanical shift motor.... And it has 2 cables going to the motor from the control box.... and has a red plug at the end of the wire harness coming from the motor. So does that mean i can use any OMC, or Johnson control box with a red plug at the end to control the motor?
