Whether at idle or 3500 rpm my engine always ran at 100 according to gauge. Now it goes up to 140-160. A mechanic tells me that is normal. But why the change? The pump is spraying water out of back fine. And the alarm hasn't gone off. Should I have the thermostats changed? Maybe not opening to allow flow?

Check the gauge. Your mechanic is correct. 100 is cold perhaps tstats stuck open. Change them because they should not have had your engine running at 100 degrees. My 150 ran cold at 110 the tech found some "debris" stuck in the stat. Did you have work done to the motor 100degrees sounds like no tsat at all.

Did something change that you went from 100 to 160?
My 150 runs at about 160.
