I think this is my first post here so please forgive any Web Forum tabboos if I'm not following the rules as I should. I'm on a bunch of different vehicle Forums and they've all helped incredibly with issues I've come across. This one is no exception thus far so thanks ahead of time for any help. I believe I searched everything I could before posting.
I didn't see anything that shows me a good picture of what I might be missing here. The engine cover hasn't stayed on correctly for years and finally got around to looking deeper to see what's going on. In a nutshell, the engine cover "hook" at the back of the motor won't "engage" with the lower cover so it seems like a spring is missing or broken. Needless to say, when you forget it's broken and reach to lift up the motor by hand, it tends to want to let you throw the whole engine cover right in the lake.
It first appeared that the spring (#7) was missing so I ordered a new one along with (#4) hook "just in case" since the original looked pretty banged up and possibly part of the problem.
Went to put it all together and maybe I'm just not understanding how exactly the spring is supposed to fit, but I now think (#6 upper to lower cover latch) might be broken and I'm just not see what's broke off and missing?
Can anyone show me a better picture of this upper/lower latch, that might show what's going on? I found one pic online somewhere of the hook, but nothing of the innards of this stinking latch. I put it back together before taking these pics so if I need to , I can run back out in the garage and tear it apart to get better pics of inside of the latch.
Thanks
Brian
