Guys.... Was out of Waukegan Sunday running motor 1996 Rude 150 two stroke started fine and ran well out to 85 fow where we set lines.
Put the 9.9 Rude 4 stroke down and had trouble starting, the motor has a new fuel pump and ran fine two weeks ago.
We trolled fine with the 150 for several hours we pulled lines at 11ish and ran for the harbor no problems 3/4 throttle 34 mph as the offshore waves were
less than a foot, had to throttle back as we hit some on shore rollers and bounced around a bit.
Got to the ramp tied up to use the john and get the trailer so we shut down the motor.
Went to start the 150 to pull up to the trailer, almost would not start, when it did ran rough and died. Ball was soft but seemed to pump up ok.
Some particulars
Full tank stabilized gas
water separating filter new last fall
Full charge on starting battery.
New ignition system on the 150 including wires 1 year ago was bullet proof till now.
Almost full oil tank.
Any Thoughts?

Re: 1996 Rude problem

I would start by making sure all electrical connections are tight including grounds sounds like something loosened up on you. If it loaded up with fuel while trying to start it that could make it run rough. Next check the plugs and check for spark using a tester set at 7/16. If you have a spark issue proceed to the CDI troubleshooting guide. You will find the link in my sig. Your engine is going to be found somewhere around page 58. Follow the steps for trouble shooting your condition if required.
