I have a 1989 Johnson 225 Ocean Runner And I want to remove the engine from the transom to do some transom work. I have read where they make an eye bolt that screws into the power head so you can lift it with a motor lift. Several questions here... I have looked at west marine and other places and cant seem to find this part or part number so I need some help there. I have no way to mfg. anything so I really just need to find the part as a whole. Second once I find the part and lift the motor and get it removed. Would it be ok to leave the moter on the lift supported by the ring for a few days? I dont have a motor mount.. I could build one out of 4X6 material If I had an idea of how to construct it. Please advise...

Re: 1998 Johnson 225 removal

Check E-bay. This is what I bought to lift my 2000 225. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-John..._Accessories_Gear&vxp=mtr&hash=item5889093020 I am not sure if it is the same for the 98. I don't think it would hurt to hang for a few days. If anything you can build a basic support and lower some of the weight onto it and also keep it on the hook. That way the flywheel is not holding all the weight that long.

I checked and he still has some of the pullers with lift rings left. I sent him a question to make sure they would fit my motor with no response... yet... so now I am looking to build a mobile moter bracket so when I do get it off I can mount it and work on it. (just some tune up stuff... Thanks for your help. hopefully the guy will respond.

Hudson, My '98 Johnny 150HPV6 has spots on the block that take hooks for lifting the motor. The cover over the flywheel procludes the use of the screw in eyes.

The 225 is different from the 150.
